Community Problem Report
Abstract
Domestic violence has been a big problem in the
world. Domestic violence is a problem that ruins families everywhere, and is on
the rise every day. It is abuse that is acted by a member of a family or
household against another member that is intended to result in physical, bodily
injury, assault, sexual assault, or a threat that places that member in such
harm. Domestic violence is usually between spouses.
This is about how domestic violence affects a woman mentally and
physically. Domestic violence is something that can be prevented but many women
tend to make excuses for men on why they abuse them and effects there live by
the abuse that happens.
Domestic Violence
Domestic violence is something that is
happening every day. Domestic violence is very serious and can have a very big
impact on the community and it can destroy many of families. The chart below,
retrieved from (www.ejfi.org) shows the amount of domestic violence cases. Domestic violence is abuse that usually happens between men and women. It usually happens when a man beats his wife or a women he is related to. The abuse between a man and the spouse can be triggered by something so simple such as they said the wrong word, they looked at another man, they have on the wrong clothes, or just money matters. Most of the abuse that happens is about the men being in control of the women and telling them what they can and cannot do. In many abusers eyes, they feel that the men should be in total control of the relationship and the women should listen to the man and do whatever the men say that the women should do, but when the women don’t do it, so that is when the abuse starts to happen and it starts to get real physical. In the article, Reminding you of your magnificence,Wambui Bahati says that “Domestic violence is about control -- being mentally controlled by a significant other. That is the reason why, after leaving an abusive relationship, a victim will go back to her abuser an average of four
times before she decides she has the mental strength to leave for good” This
shows that the men that abuse women, do it because they feel like they have to
be in control of the women at all times. Many women are in denial about being abused because they believe that the spouse loves them and they would never do anything to hurt them. By the time therelationship gets abusive the abuser has already done the emotional and psychological abuse, and has already destroyed all the dignity and self-esteem of the victim. Victims feel ashamed and are embarrassed to tell others about their situations. They are fearful of leaving because of threats from their abusers and financial dependence.
Mental effects of domestic violence
Domestic violence has a huge mental effect on women that have been victims of this crime. In the journal, Domestic Violence against Women and
Their Mental Health Status, it says “Violence against women is one of the
major mental health and human rights problem in the world today”. Domestic
violence is something that can ruin a women’s mental states of mind. It can ruin
their states of mind in many ways. One of the ways it can do this is it can make
women believe that getting abused is ok, and that everything that there abuser does is
because they love them and everything they do is out of love.
By the abusers making the women think it is out of love, it makes their
mental state accept the fact that they are getting abused and that they not
doing it to hurt the abuser. In the article, Domestic violence knows no
boundaries, it said “Women in particular — and statistically, 85 percent of
abused spouses are women often have difficulty separating from an abusive
situation.” This shows that many women really believe that there abuser really
loves them and they only beat them because they love them and that the men who
do it really love the women. They are usually in denial about being abused by
their spouse and make up excuses for their actions of abuse. Another way that
domestic violence can affect a woman mentally is by the women believing from her
previous abuse, that all man are abusive and will beat her. This is something
that is common in domestic violence victims. Many women become scared of men and
it is very hard for them to trust men because they start to believe that every
men are the same. When women developed this state of mind it is common for the
women to become lesbians due to the way they feel about men, but what many women
who turn lesbian don’t know, is that a woman can abuse them just like a man can.
However, because the abuse have that mental state of mind, they think that only
men can be abusive and will beat them. Domestic violence also affects women mentally by making the women anti-social with people. Women can go into a depression from being abused and they don’t want to talk to anybody. In the journal,Perceptive Differences on Domestic Violence Against Women, it says, “These perceptive differences refer to the moral emotions that both specialists and non specialists believe that social actors should experience when they commit an abuse qualified as an act of
domestic violence against women”, meaning that they become anti-social from
being abused by their spouse.
Conclusion
Domestic violence affects you in many ways, and is growing rapidly. It is affects women mentally and physically, and can make them really depressed. Women that are victims of domestic violence usually turn lesbian because they think that all men are the same as their abuser. Domestic violence is something that can be prevented but many women tend to make excuses for men on why they abuse them and effects there live by the abuse that happens.
